Severn Trent is one of the UK’s leading water and waste water companies. As a business with significant corporate, social and environmental responsibilities, sustainability is fundamental to the way Severn Trent runs its business.
With sustainability at the heart of its operations, Severn Trent adopts what is still a relatively unusual approach to its report, with all the sustainability elements fully integrated into the main narrative. The outcome is a clear story about its approach and its performance, right across its operations.
Water is a regulated industry, so Severn Trent was also keen to highlight the ways in which it contributes to the latest thinking about regulation and the industry’s future, as well as its plans for the next five-year regulatory review. This required us to distil a significant amount of complex information into a simple-to-follow narrative.
2014 was our third year working with Severn Trent. Our role was to write the following:
- Chairman’s statement
- Chief Executive’s review
- Market and industry overview
- Regulated – Severn Trent Water
- Non-regulated – Severn Trent Services
- Case studies
The information-gathering stage involved detailed interviews with the company’s most senior management, including the chairman, CEO, finance director, divisional managing directors, HR, IT and compliance, customer relations, regulation and corporate responsibility.
Agency: Radley Yeldar
“Richard has worked with Radley Yeldar writing and developing a consistent tone of voice for a large FTSE 100 utility company. His ability to work at c-suite level and write transparent, clearly defined copy has helped us on the journey to reaching best practice reporting. I would highly recommend Richard to other companies that are trying to tell a complex story, simply, with an appropriate tone of voice.”
